Re: Dec 16 - Paul Weller to play " Concert for Corbyn "
He does love a stolen riff and bassline, until recently I hadn't listened to The Jam properly in probably 30 odd years, I now realise just how much he'd purloined in those early years, to think he had the neck to confront the pistols' ripping off of 'In the City' for 'Holiday in the Sun'.

Left wing and gay...

Purely and simply for publicity.

Weller's first 2 solo albums are the best. Went down down hill after that.

The Jam 'Start' is The Beatles 'Taxman'
The changing man is ELO 10538 overture.

Re: Dec 16 - Paul Weller to play " Concert for Corbyn "
cholo. He probably was on the wind-up, who knows? It's been suggested in the years since that he was just sick of the 'right on' politics flying around at the time. Quite ironic, considering his later embracing of the same thing.

Re: Dec 16 - Paul Weller to play " Concert for Corbyn "
Yeh I remember that but does a single (probably antagonistic quote ) outweigh the (probably) hundreds of gigs for left wing causes over the years not to mention songs with a leftist slant?

I can remember him saying the Jam would be voting tory.

Re: Dec 16 - Paul Weller to play " Concert for Corbyn "
The Jam were 'left wing', he's always been left and has always done gigs for left wing causes, I don't know why this is a surprise to some people.

I love The Jam musically. Wasn't born til a few years after they split up thought. couple of Style Council tunes are alright but his solo stuff, is, IMO, the definition of dreary.

You're right about people worshipping him, maybe it's a generational thing but I really don't get it. He seems to have the charisma of a hungover Tesco checkout girl.

I like his music but can't stand his arrogance. Some of his interviews from the past are toe curling.

Yet another example though of the privileged knowing best eh, Bono, Geldoff, Hucknall, Bragg, etc, etc

Wild Wood is an outstanding album

Shame he's such a dickhead!

Remember seeing an interview by him in the 80s he's all knitted out in a burberrys Mac and scarf going on about redistribution of wealth! Yeah after you son!

Re: Dec 16 - Paul Weller to play " Concert for Corbyn "
The irony is all the old bands Weller is influenced by, the who, stones etc all fckd off to the states when labour was in power in the 70s cos the tax was so high..

Re: Dec 16 - Paul Weller to play " Concert for Corbyn "
I fucking hate his music but good for him. It would be better if some young bands did the same.

Re: Dec 16 - Paul Weller to play " Concert for Corbyn "
Never bought a Weller record after the jam split. Couldn't stand all the style council jumpers over shoulder bollox, now days he just wants to be Marriott. I know some people who worship him.. Leftie mods normally, I find him a bit of a cock, and like a true socialist fckd over Buckler for money, which is why you'll never see a jam reunion.. This will up his mod father image, there's quite a few daft leftie mods, irony is if Corbyn got in Weller would be taxed to fck, unless he keeps it offshore of course.

Those in the seating areas will have a hard time all trying to find somewhere on the floor to sit down on instead.
